For 10 hard-luck Texans, a new lease on life is so close they can touch it. Under a scorching sun for days on end, armed with nothing but hope, humor and ambition, they’ll fight to keep at least one hand on a brand-new truck in order to win it. In the hilarious, hard-fought contest that is HANDS ON A HARDBODY only one winner can drive away with the American Dream.
The cast list of this newest of Broadway shows includes our own SCOTT WAKEFIELD. Gretna audiences raved over Scott when he starred as Will Rogers in our 2010 production of “The Will Rogers Follies” at the Playhouse and again when he starred in last Valentine’s weekend “Love ‘Round the Piano” at the Lantern Lodge for Gretna Theatre. Here he is, back on Broadway, having strutted on the Great White Way in “Nothin’ but the Blues” and “Ring of Fire” as well as Off-Broadway’s “The Joy Luck Club,” “…Still Getting My Act Together,” “Golden Boy of the Blue Ridge” and “The American Clock.” Previously, Scott also appeared in Gretna Theatre’s “Pump Boys & Dinettes” (which he also directed) and in “Noises Off.” We sure do know how to pick great talent to appear on the Gretna Theatre stage!
The cast of “Hands on a Hard Body”, with tons of Broadway credits behind them, includes KEITH CARRADINE, ALLISON CASE, HUNTER FOSTER, JAY ARMSTRONG JOHNSON, DAVID LARSEN, JACOB MING-TRENT, KATHLEEN ELIZABETH MONTELEONE, MARY GORDON MURRAY, JIM NEWMAN, CONNIE RAY, JON RUA, KEALA SETTLE, DALE SOULES and WILLIAM YOUMANS.
Inspired by true events, this new musical features a book by DOUG WRIGHT (Pulitzer Prize winner, I Am My Own Wife), lyrics by AMANDA GREEN (Bring it On: The Musical) and music by TREY ANASTASIO (Phish) and AMANDA GREEN. Directed by NEIL PEPE (Speed-the-Plow) with musical staging by SERGIO TRUJILLO (Memphis, Jersey Boys), it is based on the acclaimed 1997 documentary of the same name by S.R. Bindler, produced by Kevin Morris and Bindler.
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA has arrived on Broadway for the first time ever! Four-time Tony Award® nominee Douglas Carter Beane’s (Sister Act, Xanadu) delightfully romantic and hilarious take on the ultimate makeover story features all the classic elements you remember—the pumpkin, the glass slipper, the masked ball and more—plus some surprising new twists! Rediscover some of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s most beloved songs, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It’s Possible” and “Ten Minutes Ago” in this outrageously fun Broadway musical for dreamers of all ages.
Gretna Theatre was proud to cast JACK SCOTT in our production of “Funny Girl” on the Playhouse mainstage in our 2011 season and he was terrific in our Theatre for Young Audiences series as well. Unbeknownst to us, he had already gotten the word he was to be part of a brand new stage musical version of Disney’s “Newsies” at the Papermill Playhouse…and from there, he is on Broadway in one of the biggest hits there is! His talents as an actor, dancer, singer and gymnast were evident to us…and so…it’s Broadway for this Boston Conservatory student and Gretna Theatre alum!
